What comes to mind when you hear the word Gurgaon?
For some, it is the shining glass towers of Cyber City where young professionals chase global dreams on double-shot espressos. For others, it’s the endless traffic snarls on Golf Course Road, the unpredictable power cuts, and the thick December smog. For many, it’s both — a paradox wrapped in neon light, ambition, and dust.
When I moved through this city, I realised Gurgaon is not just a location on the map. It is a state of being. It’s where India’s aspirations, anxieties, and contradictions collide every single day. And that’s what inspired my third book in the "Heartbeats of India" series.
Gurgaon is the perfect microcosm of modern India. Here, a small-town couple in DLF Phase 5 might be struggling to understand quinoa, while a migrant e-rickshaw driver on the same street quietly dispenses wisdom that no MBA textbook can teach. Here, people measure success in EMIs, Instagram likes, and the size of their balcony view — yet go home at night with the same human longings for love, security, and connection.
Behind every glass façade, there’s a story. And in Gurgaon, stories are everywhere.
What’s inside the book?
Millennium Tales is a collection of fifteen short stories, each exploring a different slice of life in Gurgaon:
A small-town couple navigating the unspoken rules of a gated society in DLF Phase 5.
A corporate whistleblower torn between conscience and career in Cyber City.
A bartender in Sector 29 who collects confessions as easily as he pours drinks.
A maid playing her own clever game while her madam and neighbour wage war over her services.
A retired colonel fighting a land-grabber to save a community park.
And even a speculative peek at what Gurgaon might look like in 2040, where AI runs homes but not hearts.
Some tales will make you laugh out loud. Others may tug at your heart. And a few might remind you of your own battles, quiet victories, or the person you once were when you first set foot in this city.
Humour, Heart, and Hard Truths
What I wanted most while writing these stories was to capture the feel of Gurgaon. Not just the places — the malls, the metro, the high-rises — but the people. The everyday gestures, the “jugaad” survival tactics, the quirks, the accents, the aspirations.
Yes, there is satire. Yes, there is nostalgia. But beneath all of it lies an attempt to answer one simple question: What does it mean to belong in a city that is constantly changing?
Who is this book for?
If you’ve ever lived in Gurgaon and felt both dazzled and dazed, this book is for you.
If you’ve grown up in a smaller town and tried to “fit in” somewhere bigger, these stories will feel like old friends.
If you’re simply curious about the drama, humour, and humanity behind India’s corporate capital, you’ll find it all here.
A City That Teaches You to Bring Your Own Sky
At the end of the day, Gurgaon is what you make of it. The city will give you opportunities, conveniences, maybe even luxury. But it won’t give you belonging on a platter. That part, you have to create yourself — with your memories, your values, and your heart.
And that’s what Millennium Tales is ultimately about: finding your own rhythm in the fast, often bewildering, but strangely beautiful symphony of Gurgaon.
📖 Millennium Tales: Life, Love & Lapses in the Fast Lane of Gurgaon is now available on Amazon Kindle.
I hope you’ll pick up a copy, take a walk with me through these fifteen stories, and maybe, just maybe, fall a little bit in love with Gurgaon’s chaos too.
